Gordon Parks and Lewis Hine

By: Gordon Parks
The man in the picture looks very lonely or sad, this could be referring to the Great Depression. He's looking down, making him seem as if he's thinking about someone or contemplating something. The blurred background makes you focus on the man. Because he's wearing a lighter shirt against a dark background it makes him stand out even more. The black and white coloring gives the photo a sense of the era in which it took place.

The young girl in this photo has a very blank expression on her face. This tells the story of a child trapped in the hard life of a factory worker. Although you can tell this is an old photo, her face is so clear and draws your attention to it. This photo has great texture in her wrinkled dress and the hard, rough walls of the factory.

My Three Best Photos

I think this photo is great for filling the frame. The way the peppers overlap each other makes it look like there are tons of them. The different shades of red, green, and orange of the peppers is very intense and the lighting makes them really bright. The lighting also makes them look very shiny and fresh. The peppers take up the whole screen, not drawing your attention to any blank spots.

This photo is great for landscaping. I like that you can see the rust on the chain and pole, and where the pole and lock look more worn away. The lock is unlocked, drawing attention and telling a story. This picture came out very clear, with no blurriness to distract you.

To me, this picture could be perceived many different ways. It could be a cross between the green nature and the brick walls of the city. The coloring of the vines draws you in next to the brownish-red bricks. The pole in between also creates a separation that focuses your attention to the middle of the photo.

I love this picture, because it feels very old fashioned and poised. The girl looks young and innocent riding her bike with her tennis shoes on, but she had a pair of heels in the basket and is wearing bright red lipstick. This makes her seem as if she's on her way from or to a new place. I like that she's the center of the picture, but you can still see the beach and boardwalk in the back.

I really like this picture, because of the shadowing. I like that half of her face is basically black, while the rest of her face is very pale. The light on one side of her face, and her wearing a bow, makes that side of her seem very innocent. The lighting in this photo is amazing, as well as the angle that she's placed.

This picture to me is very dark and creepy, it almost looks like a painting. I love how they've edited it so that the lighting is darker on the outside, making you focus on the girl and the bird in the middle. The colors they've chosen really stand out and make the girl look stunning.
